Webinar – Understanding the Population Basis of Seed Quality Attributes

February 27 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free

February 27, 2025, 2:30 pm EST / 11:30 am PST

Speaker: Dr. Kent Bradford, Professor Emeritus, University of California, Davis

Three key attributes of seed quality are germination percentage, speed and uniformity. Each of these is related to the behavior of individual seeds under the conditions in which they are hydrated. The germination characteristics of populations of individual seeds can be understood by application of the population-based threshold (PBT) model, which integrates the quality attributes noted above and describes how seeds respond to environmental, hormonal and storage conditions. Understanding seed behavior from a population viewpoint has multiple implications for seed production, conditioning, enhancement and storage.
